Kosta Browne

The 2021 lineup is here! Since its inception, the winery has been devoted to showcasing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from unique sites across California. A culmination of a shared dream, the winery came to fruition in 1997 while working at John Ash & Co. (a popular restaurant in Santa Rosa, California) where Dan was the general manager; Michael was the sommelier. They wanted to make Pinot Noir. With 1400 dollars invested, a thousand of which came from saving their tips, they made their first barrel of wine. For them, there was no going back.

Fast forward, Michael and Dan sold the project first in 2015 and began making moves into their winery projects, Cirq and Chev, and Aldenalli respectively. Today, Julien Howsepian is the winemaker continuing Kosta Browne’s two-decade legacy of creating some of America’s benchmark wines. Raised in Northern California’s Bay Area, Julien regularly traveled to France to visit family, including relatives in the wine industry. These early visits kindled Julien’s appreciation for the culture of wine leading to his pursuit of creating world-class wines.

These varieties reflect their growing conditions and winemaking approaches like no other and capture the individual expression of the state’s finest growing regions—the rugged and diverse Sonoma Coast, the foggy Russian River Valley, the chilly Santa Lucia Highlands, the coastal proximity of the Sta. Rita Hills and the wild, untamed Anderson Valley. The wines below strive to create the purest expression of each appellation’s unique personality.
